If you’re looking for a way to move better, feel stronger and protect your body long-term, Pilates is one of the best places to start. It’s not just about core strength, Pilates is incredibly effective for improving joint health and overall mobility.
Gentle on Joints, Big on Benefits
Pilates focuses on controlled, precise movements that place minimal stress on your joints. This makes it ideal for people of all ages, especially those dealing with stiffness, past injuries, or conditions like arthritis.
Improves Range of Motion
Whether on the Mat or on the Equipment, a Pilates class will take all your joints through their full range of motion in a safe and supported way. Over time, this helps increase flexibility, improves biomechanics, and reduces that “tight” or restricted feeling many people experience in areas like the hips, neck, shoulders and spine.
Strengthens Supporting Muscles
Pilates focuses on strengthening the deep stabilising muscles, particularly around the spine, hips, knees and shoulders. Emphasis is placed on proper breathing, muscle activation, and alignment to help these muscles function effectively. We often incorporate unstable prop such as small balls, stability cushions, or roller to gently challenge balance, encouraging those deeper muscles to engage and provide the support your joints need to move safely, efficiently and pain free.
Enhances Body Awareness
Pilates is a mindful, intelligent form of movement. By paying attention to how your body moves, you improve co-ordination and alignment, reducing unnecessary strain on your joints in everyday activities.
Supports Long-Term Mobility
Regular Pilates practice helps keep your body moving freely and comfortably. Our graded classes mean the exercises are achievable and that you are able to perform them safely and with good technique. All movements can be modified to accommodate injuries or health conditions. Better mobility means improved posture, reduced risk of injury, and the ability to stay active doing the things you enjoy.
‘I first started coming to Pilates due to joint stiffness and pain and I wanted to improve my flexibility and core strength. I can honestly say I feel so much better after a Pilates session with Lindsay. My neck, shoulders and lower back can be tight and cause me discomfort but by stretching and following Lindsay’s instructions it helps to reset me for the week ahead.
Lindsay is extremely knowledgable and an excellent teacher targeting lessons to individuals as needed.
I would not hesitate in recommending anyone to try a session. It’s a friendly and non judgemental atmosphere in a light and airy space’.
