If you have been recommended to attend Pilates by your physiotherapist or medical professional then this is the class for you. We will ask you if it is ok to liaise with your healthcare provider in order to provide you with the best care possible. We work closely with local physios, chiropractors, osteopaths and massage therapists and have frequent referrals from consultants.
If you start the class with an undiagnosed condition we may recommend that you seek advice prior to starting a course of classes.
If you are post natal then it is imperative that you have had your 6-8 week check and have been given the all clear to exercise by your health care provider. If you have severe diastasis recti or any other post natal issues you may be asked to see a Women’s Health Physiotherapist alongside regular Pilates classes to provide you with the best possible recovery.
Exercises are slow and controlled focusing on correct breathing, alignment, muscle engagement and movement sequencing.
We work in a safe neutral position and avoid putting undue load through the spine. We use props such as bands, balls, circles and rollers to challenge the deep stabilisers of the spine. We work on building correct, efficient movement and work especially on strengthening the hips and core.
Exercises are adapted for individual conditions, with modifications and alternative exercises given to make movements achievable.
Class numbers are limited and everyone receives individual attention and hands on correction where needed. These are small, friendly supportive classes where you are encouraged to move within your capabilities.
