Memories of Zoom!

In March 2020 we got the devastating news that the country was going down in lockdown. I remember locking up the studio on that last day, standing on the studio steps and thinking what do I do know?

I’d heard of an instructor in New York who taught online ( it was so unusual back then!) and immediately got in touch and got all the info I needed to get my virtual studio up and running,

Within 2 days we’d made the jump from live classes to Zoom classes and what happened was, looking back, quite unbelievable.

We built such an amazing community online. Everyone logged in for 10am and 11.15am each morning. We discussed how long the queues were at Tesco, supplies of hand sanitizer, where to buy masks, we laughed as everyone’s hair got longer ( and greyer), we had cats, dogs, kids, partners joining in. I sent out ‘Pilates at Home’ kits posting them on my ‘daily walk’ to the post box. We got creative and used things we had at home - the tins of beans class was one of the most popular classes! I still miss that class!

In the summer we had people joining in from their gardens, when travel was allowed people joined us from Spain and Lanzarote, taking us on tours of their apartments and showing us views of the blue sky. At Christmas I dressed up as a reindeer and delivered gingerbread to everyone. It was such a surreal time!

Because everyone was doing Pilates everyday we got fitter and stronger. The ‘Super-Intermediate’ classes we were doing at the end of lockdown were some of the most challenging classes I’ve taught!
